The JBL Flip 5 is the latest generation of one of the most popular Bluetooth speakers on the market , along with the UE Boom 3 . The new version maintains the build quality of the JBL FLip 4, JBL Sound framework Bangladesh, but packs a bigger battery, offers better sound quality, and has a USB-C port.
This line from JBL has dominated the wireless portable speaker market for several years now and the new model does not disappoint. The JBL Flip 5 is available for a very attractive price, is waterproof, rugged and offers very decent power.
JBL 5 Review: Design and Build Quality
In terms of design, the JBL Flip 5 speaker is almost identical to the Flip 4. It is slightly larger, but it maintains the cylindrical shape. It is covered by a protective fabric resistant to water, dust or scratches and the ends are covered with a rubber that provides durability. The build quality is really excellent and it is attractive.
The new JBL Flip 5 portable speaker is IPX7 certified , which means it can be submerged for up to 30 minutes at a depth of one meter. It features soft-touch buttons on top that let you control volume, playback, and PartyBoost connectivity.
On the back of the JBL FLip 5 speaker we find buttons for Bluetooth synchronization and power. Unfortunately it does not integrate an auxiliary port, but the charging port has been upgraded to a USB-C . The USB-C port adds some future protection as newer equipment integrates this type of connection.
It does not present the door that protected the inputs on the JBL Flip 4 since it is now fully waterproof, you just have to make sure that the port is dry when charging it.
JBL FLip 5 speaker: Sound quality
The most significant changes that these JBL speakers present are in the sound. The previous version integrated two transducers, while the Flip 5 has only one larger one. JBL FLip 5 power? The driver of the new model produces more power (20W) and the sound in general is perceived louder.
The new transducer produces a clearer sound with better definition. On the other hand, the spatiality of the Flip 4 is better thanks to the two drivers. The new large driver improves bass and treble performance, but produces a more direct sound with less extension.
The bass of the JBL Flip 5 speaker has a good punch, it is perceived strong and controlled , with good details. The downside is that they don’t feel as deep, but this is to be expected from such a small speaker. The mid tones have good clarity and maintain a good presence in the mix, just like on the Flip 4.
The treble is much better than the previous model . The high frequencies on the Flip 4 feel quite harsh at high volumes, while on the JBL Flip 5 they feel clean and smooth. They do not present the details of more expensive models, but this is normal.
The sound profile is quite faithful and well balanced . It offers a good punch, the bass sounds deep, the vocals stand out and the treble is soft. Sound quality doesn’t seem any different than the Flip 4 at low volumes, but at high volumes the JBL Flip 5 performs much better.
connectivity
JBL has upgraded its Connect Plus technology to PartyBoost in this model. PartyBoost lets you sync up JBL speakers so they can play the same music simultaneously. It’s easy to use, you just need to press the PartyBoost button on the speakers and they sync automatically.
Unfortunately, the PartyBoost system isn’t compatible with JBL Connect Plus , which means you won’t be able to connect them with other older JBL speakers. Not even the JBL Charge 4 uses PartyBoost. However, JBL FLIP 5 Portable value in Bangladesh, the company will most likely offer updates to its other models so that they can use the new technology. This already happened when they upgraded from JBL Connect to Connect Plus.
The JBL Flip 5 speaker uses Bluetooth 4.2 technology , has a good connection range, and when testing it we experienced no issues. One thing we don’t like is that the JBL Flip 5 Bluetooth speaker doesn’t integrate the 3.5mm auxiliary input that the previous version had . If you don’t plan on connecting wired devices it’s not a problem, but it never hurts to have it.
Battery
The size of the new driver causes a greater battery drain, but the JBL Flip 5 speaker also integrates a larger capacity battery (4800mAh vs 3000 mAh). That’s why both models deliver approximately 12 hours of continuous playback at moderate volumes . We tested it at maximum volume level and it gave us about 10 hours.
It doesn’t offer the highest capacity on the market, but it’s not bad for such a portable wireless speaker . Plus, the JBL Flip’s USB-C port allows you to fully charge it in two and a half hours, so you won’t have to wait long to use it on the go. Like the Charge 4, it integrates indicators that tell you the life of the battery.
Conclusion on the JBL Flip 5 speaker
This line has always stood out in the market for its quality/price ratio and the new JBL Flip 5 is worth every penny. It’s an affordable portable speaker that has great build quality. It is resistant to water, dust and scratches. In addition, it can withstand several falls. You can take it anywhere with no problem.
It doesn’t offer the most sublime sonic details, but it performs very well when we consider its price. The bass is strong, the mids have a nice presence, and the treble is much better than the previous model. Battery life is pretty decent and it comes with a USB-C port.
Although its sonic spatiality is less than that of the Flip 4, it sounds better overall. The new model is undoubtedly one of the best Bluetooth speakers on the market. Interested? Find the best prices on Amazon Spain .
